A SMALL BOOK SIGNING
with some great friends
One of my greatest inspirations in all my work are my friends. Their quirks, personalities & some of the moments we've shared are scattered all over my characters & stories. Every day I wake up grateful to be surrounded by such wonderful, selfless & talented people that make my life so much better and worth living.
It's no wonder that they picked el Día de Muertos (my favorite holiday) to throw me a surprise book signing. They bought copies of the book, invited some of their friends, hand-made merch & decorated their apartment to host this intimate event. In short, they showed up for me in a way that warmed my heart.
Anyone that knows me is aware that (although the evidence might suggest otherwise) I struggle with putting my work out there and being perceived. Which is why this gesture means the world to me. It allowed me to step out of my comfort zone & be open to try something new and a bit scary.
I awkwardly described my book to the few attendants that I didn't know. Then we lit a candle and I pulled Tarot cards for everyone. It was very much a magic ritual; my friends truly know me. Then I had the fortune of signing copies of my book for the first time ever. It was more than I could ever ask.
We drank, we laughed, we sang karaoke. I cried a lot of happy tears. It was the perfect way to celebrate a day of remembrance, surrounded by my spirits and some of my favorite people. And the most fitting way to celebrate a story like
Fiery Heart, which is all about the importance of love, friendship and true connections.
To Andy, Fer & Mayra: Thank you for existing. Thank you for inspiring me. Thank you for being those orbs lighting my way through the Valley of the Tricksters (book reference lol) If nothing more, launching this book has showed me how lucky I am to have crossed paths with you. I am in awe of you and all you do for your community.
I am very loved.
