5 divination tools to look through time & talk to spirits

Do you want to do readings but don’t know where to start? Here are some simple and inexpensive methods to get you started.

Looking into the past, present, and future is a vital practice for most spiritualists. And many witches pride themselves on using the fanciest tarot decks out there. But divination tools work better when they are deep and personal.

How do you pick a divination tool?

If you do not know where to start, here are some simple and inexpensive methods to practice your readings. They are perfect for shadow work or for communicating with spirits. And you can easily personalize them to fit your and your practice’s needs.

As a reminder: Don’t skip personal readings. Shadow work is essential to avoid projecting our stuff onto others. Good divinators know how to identify messages. Start reading for yourself before reading for others.

Cards

Cards are perhaps the most popular divination tool. Tarot is the first one that comes to our mind, but there are many options. I like Oracle decks with art and concepts that speak to me. You can use any deck of playing cards, like UNO, Pokémon cards, or YuGiOh. And if you are a creative, I advise you to make your own (try free apps like Canva or Dream)

Pendulum

While many expensive pendulums are on the market, you can make your own at home. Crystals are a favorite, but any small and relatively heavy object tied to a string or chain will do. These readings are fitting for yes or no questions. And with this method, you must assign a meaning to the pendulum's movement. For example, swinging back and forward for ‘no’ and moving in circles for ‘yes.’

Crystals

This is the perfect method if you have a bunch of crystal chips! I like assigning value to different crystals depending on their energy— happiness for citrine, protection for obsidian, or cleansing for clear quartz. Once you do that, you can put them all in a cup and toss them on a table. Then close your eyes, and read the vibes of each crystal with your hands.

Runes

Specifically, runes refer to the letters in the runic alphabet. The reader uses pebbles or other materials carved with runes in this method. These symbols relate to Germanic languages, but you can apply the concept with other meaningful icons. Try making your own by painting on tiny river stones. Popular characters include those related to alchemy, astrology, astronomy, mathematics, or physics.

Dice

Roll the dice on your future! This tool works for yes or no questions. You can assign spiritual value to the numbers based on your practice. Or decode the messages by looking at the deeper meaning of the result you get (perhaps a date, an age, or a house number)

Ultimately, the best divination tool will be the one closest to your heart. Listen to the spirit and connect with your guides. They are the ones who will show you the way towards better communication. The more you stop relying on booklets and ‘one size fits all’ readings, the better you decode messages. Trust your instinct.

See you in another life!
