Level up your witchCRAFT by infusing your rituals with creativity with these witch tips from Artie!
In a world of instragramable witchcraft, it’s easy to be self-conscious about our practices. It can be overwhelming to see so many aesthetic altars & spells and feel like we’re missing something. And this is especially true if you’re a new witch.
Fortunately, magic isn’t about looks; your rituals don’t have to look pretty to work. But occasionally, adding a bit of pzazz to our spells can be pleasing. In the same way, I put on a full face of makeup once every six months.
Art is a form of magic, requiring dedication and pouring a tiny part of your soul into everything you create. Choosing to incorporate it into your practice will present many opportunities. Here are some tips to start using this creative energy.
Drawing & Painting
You don’t have to be an artist to have fun with drawing and painting. You can infuse your work with magic by projecting an intention into it. Use paints to mix colors that make you happy, and keep them in your pocket as an aid for a gloomy day. Let your mind wander as you draw simple flowers for meditation. Channel an emotion while you doodle with a pen.
Sigil Making
Sigils are an essential tool in magical practices. And there are different methods to create them. But the one I use the most is combining three to five symbols that work well together. Say you need a sigil for grounding and protection; you can make one with Earth, Virgo, and Venus symbols. I like using astronomy, astrology, physics, alchemy, and chemistry characters.
Stitching & Knitting
You can stitch sigils and symbols into your clothes to infuse your outfits with a bit of magic. It can be as discreet or as extravagant as you want, depending on the energy you’re channeling. If you’re a knitter, you can make magical clothing by focusing on your intentions as you work. For example, you can make a scarf to guard the person wearing it from severe illness.
Poetry Magic
In my opinion, poetry is a magic spell. Words are one of the most potent magic tools we have. And the rhyming, repetition, and emotion that comes with poems it’s perfect for witchcraft. The best part is that you don’t have to be a writer to start making a little poem. Try something short you can repeat to yourself as a motto in times of need.
Singing & Dancing
Music has such an important role in spiritual practices for a good reason. It’s a great communication tool with the spirits. Lyrics can work like spells, and dancing sets the rhythm of your magic. I much rather sing a powerful song during my rituals than recite a generic affirmation. This is because music makes connecting to raw emotion and energy easier. And when you bring it into a ritual, you’ll be able to tap into its magic every time you sing or dance to it.
Jewelry Making
If you’re into making jewelry, you can level up your craft by adding some witch to it. It’s a way to create amulets with the added power of hand-making and conscious intention. You can make braided bracelets for protection, crystal necklaces for love, or earrings with sigils for a clear mind. Bring your creativity into it, and the possibilities are endless!
Homemade candles
Making candles from scratch requires a bit more practice and tools. But if you don’t have the time to pick up a new craft, there’s a way to spruce up plain candles. Paint sigils or art on the containers of votive candles. Add herbs and oils to the melted wax in tealight candles. Or carve sigils into pillar candles. Anything that makes your tools unique and pleasing for you will give your spell an extra oomph. Don’t be afraid to use your creativity!
